The chateau is a complex of buildings in renaissance style built for Trčka of
Lípa on the location of a former gothic castle. As a representative renaissance
seat of the Trčkas of Lípa, it was built between 1560 and 1569. In 1634
when Jan Rudolf Trčka died, his testament was ignored. The Colloredos received the property for their support to Habsburks,
instead of passing the property to Trčka's daughters and grand-daughter. The Colloredos had the chateau modified
(probably by architect G. B. Alliprandi).
Historical interiors with a fine gallery founded by F. G. Colloredo Mansfeld, a library, and halls with ethnographic collections.
An armoury housing weaponry from the 16th to 19th centuries, including
oriental weapons.
Large garden with ponds, a renaissance summer house and an extensive
landscape park with a rich collection of tree species.
In 2003 regional court decided to return the Opočno chateau from the state possession to Colloredo family.
However, later the judgement was revoked several times, and the ownership seems still not definitely stated.
